1NT could contain 5-M. Answers include m-transfers. /1NT: 15-17, B (no 0/1, max 1 doubleton, so 4333, 4432, 5332). Can contain 5-M. Answerer: - PASS: 0-7 - 2♣: *ALERT* asks for M, but doesn't promise 4-M. Answerer must process via -2♣ to rebid an -2NT limit. 2NT as a first answer is reserved for transfer to ♦. /2♦: no 4-M /2♥♠: 4-M /2NT: 5-M - 3♣: which M + strength? /3♦: 5-♥, max /3♥: 5-♥, min /3♠: 5-♠, min /3NT: 5-♠, max - 3♦: which M, not interested in strength (probably Weak Stayman) /3♥: 5-♥ /3♠: 5-♠ -2♠(NT): transfer for ♣(♦): no 4-M, 0-6, 6+m OR 12+, 5+m /2NT: intermediate bid: fit: 3+m1 AND top-honor (A or K) /3♣: execute transfer: no fit Purpose: with m-fit we can end in 3NT (as of 5+HP), and possibly slam (12+HP). With few HP and 6+m, we'd rather play a 3m-contract than NT.
